Jim Huegerich

Jim Huegerich received his MEd, Special Education, from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1975 and has been employed since with the Town of Chapel Hill, serving in capacities as Police Crisis Counselor, Crisis Unit Supervisor, Interim Town Human Services Director and Director of Crisis and Human Services.  As Director of Crisis and Human Services he manages a 24-hour mobile crisis unit and a human services component for special needs populations of the town.  He provides training across the State of North Carolina on the topics of Safety & Workplace Violence, Defusing Conflict and Mental Health Emergencies.
Jim holds advanced certificates in Crisis Intervention, Critical Incident Stress Management and as a NC Criminal Justice Instructor.   In addition, he has received training from the FBI and SBI in Hostage Negotiation and UNC-CH Department of Psychiatry in Handling Mental Health Crises and Emergencies.  He is a member of the NC Region J Critical Incident Stress Management Team, NC State Emergency Response Team, CHPD Hostage Negotiation Team, Duke University Hospice, and Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Crisis and School Safety Teams.  He volunteers in the community as Stephen Minister, Red Cross Shelter Manager and Grief Counselor.
